Newest Stats from GSMA on the unbanked and mobile financial services

• Mobile money user ARPU is 74% higher than non-user ARPU. Unbanked users spend US$9.4 per month on average and non-users spend US$5.4 per month in the Philippines

• In addition to non-direct benefits such as increased ARPU and reduced churn, mobile money has the potential to deliver US$5 billion in direct revenues for mobile operators by 2012 on the basis of the services being adopted by 364 million unbanked customers

• It is estimated that there will be 1.7 billion unbanked customers with mobile phones by 2012

• An estimated 3.5 billion people worldwide currently lack access to formal financial services
